Design Tip: Proportion is key in any design element. Large, tall rooms require items that would normally overpower rooms with the standard 8 to 9 foot ceilings. This means furniture should be larger in scale as well as the accessories. A common mistake is to fill the larger spaces with more things, creating a busy looking room. Purchasing the proper size pieces, even if it is one piece at a time, gets the look you want.
Conversely, a smaller space requires smaller scale pieces. Though, again, the more pieces one puts in a room, the more crowded or overwhelmed it will appear. Less is more in both instances. |
