Imagination can Bring your Destination to You

One current design trend that I have recently enjoyed working with is a light and airy "seaside" look.  My client and her husband used to enjoy traveling to Florida for long vacations from the Indiana winters.  However, her husband has health issues that prevent them from now enjoying these respites in Florida, so we chose to make their new villa have a "Florida" look and feel.

To begin, we changed the personality of the villa by choosing paint colors that were reminiscent of sand and the sea.  The client and I then collaborated using cream and ice blue upholstery fabrics to create a calming background.  We have used these pieces in combination with rich, dark mahogany side tables and buffet pieces to make the light colors of the upholstery "pop".  We have continued the look by choosing artwork with seaside prints framed in mahogany.

Our window treatments consist of light and airy sheer panels with the simplistic valance being made of a heavier print fabric in the creams and ice blues, with the occasional navy accent.  The valance is a shirred piece with a scalloped lower edge reminiscent of waves on the ocean.  We have used mirrors to reflect natural light, cream-colored lanterns and large glass hurricane vases with sand, shells, sea grass and cattails to complete our seaside feel.
